Jimmy Anderson, the author of this independent study, is a fifth grader in Mrs. Wolcott’s class at Fairmeadows Elementary School in West Des Moines, Iowa.  His grandfather, Jim Carr, was a starter for the 1937 Melrose High School state championship basketball team, and Jimmy is named after his grandfather.

Jimmy is interested in sports of all kinds, coin collecting, music, scouting, and camping.  Like his grandfather, Jimmy enjoys playing basketball, and like his grandfather, Jimmy is not very tall, but is very Irish.  Jimmy will be attending his eleventh high school boys’ basketball state championship final night on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2001.  Like many others, he will be remembering the accomplishments of his grandfather’s championship team especially that night.
