Softly in the background as the ladies stroll, Jerry Vestal, our Melrose musicman, plays Guy Lombardo's EASTER PARADE while the audience cheers and tries to pick the prettiest chapeau.

Of course all of the hats are chosen to be the finest, so a number has to be drawn to pick a winner who receives a bouquet of flowers or other grand prize and who then parades alone in her Easter finery amid the applause of her parish.

Last year, there was a category added for the oldest hat which was won by Jean Hannam Turbot, who wore the hat she was married in fifty years ago.

Kay Cecil won in the category of the hat which traveled the farthest distance, as her bonnet came from Ireland which made it very special indeed.
