MELROSE GOLF OPEN….COUNT DOWN~~~~~

COUNT DOWN is on for the ninth annual MELROSE GOLF OPEN &  tis shaping up to be ONE BIG GALA EVENT.  One hundred golfers are signed up & ready to enjoy an awesome day of Golf & Blarney. Team entrys still welcome–received another one just today. Will post rules on this web site soon. Written rules take precedent over any verbal communication. Members of the exclusive Green Jacket Club–please be sure to bring your green blazers to induct the new winners into the club.   Betterment needs this kodak moment for pictures to put in newspaper & on web site after the tourney.

Shot gun start at high noon-Friday-August 17, 2012!!!.THE FUN IS ABOUT TO BEGIN~!  More info posted soon……………..God Bless

COUNT DOWN–to Melrose Open Golf Tourney~~!!

Reminder:    TEAM ENTRY FEE for Melrose Golf Open is $200 and DUE THIS WEEK…BEFORE JULY 31st.

AUGUST lst team entry fees will go to $250….no exceptions.

Betterment HAS to get pre paid entry fees because it is TOO STRESSFUL to try & get payment the day of tourney. If just 5 teams pay that day–that’s 20 people “SENIOR” volunteers have to collect from & record & keep track of & just don’t need that stress–with all that’s going on. Also, Betterment needs the money in bank before day of tourney so can write out checks for the thousands Golf Course charges, get some prizes, have change etc. Plus, can’t risk losing Betterment funds if there’s a rain out.    MEGA THANKS for your understanding & for supporting Melrose community projects.

We have to notify Norwalk  by July 31 as to the number of teams we have signed up so they can to obtain-reserve Golf Carts.

Hope to get YOUR team entry fee THIS WEEK if you plan to join the Irish in a GALA day of Golf & Blarney. Please help SREAD THE WORD to anyone & everyone you think might want to golf this year.

Checks to be made out & mailed to:

Melrose Bettement–701 Erin Ave–Melrose, Ia 52569

God Bless,

Melrose Betterment

Melrose GOLF OPEN-Fri. Aug. 17-Norwalk

                      MELROSE OPEN GOLF TOURNEY—Fri-August 17

Irish eyes are smiling in anticipation of the ninth annual Melrose Open Golf tournament at the Norwalk Golf & Country Club to be held Friday, August 17.

Proceeds from the Golf Open go to Melrose Community Betterment projects. The Melrose Green Hat Society usually attends and helps with raising dollars for the Irish.

Entry fee for the 4 member teams is $200 and are due by July 31st. Late entry fee will be $250 if paid after July 31st. (NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Betterment ladies find it way TOO STRESSFUL to try to take entry fees the morning of tourney—with all the other responsibilities, plus, Betterment cannot afford to take the risk of a rainout & have to pay thousands for the Golf Course regardless.)Betterment appreciates eveyone’s understanding & cooperation-knowing this is for worthy Melrose projects.

Sponsorships are $100 and donations are also being recruited. Sponsors names will be posted on signs on the golf course the day of the tourney, will be published in a thank you ad in the Albia and Chariton newspapers after the tourney and will be posted on the Melrose web site www.melroseiowa.org

Tee times for the Melrose Open are 7 a.m and 11.30 a.m shotgun starts. An Awards Ceremony will begin about 5pm in the clubhouse.

Coveted green blazers will be the grand prize and will be presented to the winners by the Green Blazer Winners Club.

Melrose heartily welcomes all non-golfers and non-Irish who appreciate Melrose to this gala event. A full gallery of fans is usually present throughout the day and evening and readily joins in the spinning of Blarney.

Checks for entry fees, sponsorships, and donations are to be made out to Melrose Betterment-Golf Open and mailed to Melrose Betterment, 701 Erin Ave, Melrose, Ia

In case of a rain out, a card tourney and social will be held as we cannot refund or reschedule the golf course.

The Melrose Open Golf Tournament tis a gala event for Melrose and a grand day for the Irish and their friends as folks remind one another of the wise proclamation “If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, you’re lucky enough!” Check the Melrose web site often to follow the team entries and updates regarding the golf tourney.

Melrose Veterans Memorial Phase 2 Completed

          Melrose Veteran’s Memorial-Phase 2 Completed

Phase 2 of the Melrose Veteran’s Memorial on main street has been completed in time for Memorial Day- just as Chairman John Carmody had planned.  Organized in October 2010, this project has received overwhelming interest & support from Monroe county citizens and from former Melrose area citizens & alumnae living throughout the USA. Word spread rapidly & the response, interest & appreciation for this project have been incredible. Donations came in & over $6000 was raised quickly to start Phase One (and more donations recently)  Many volunteer hours have been donated to research & gather names of our veterans, do dirt work, pour & finish cement work, get electricity & lighting to the site, erect the lighted Memorial display board, build a handicap assessable railing & cement approach, erect a flag pole & light it around the clock.

The second stage of this project has now been completed. The Monroe County Community Foundation awarded a $2200 Grant toward Phase Two of this worthy project. Phase two includes purchasing & erecting eight stone markers depicting the 8 branches of the USA Services.  Landscaping materials have been added, rock, shrubs & flowers. Many volunteer hours were donated headed up by John.

Many stop to visit the Memorial to reflect & pay tribute. They often take pictures & take notes as they point out names on the Memorial to the young & old who accompany them.

The Memorial has proven to be of historical value & is an educational tool that has sparked people’s interest to learn more about America & Melrose history.    Area residents, former residents, alumnae, out of state relatives, travelers & tourists can often be seen sitting awhile to soak up & enjoy small town & rural Iowa roots as they honor our Veterans. The Memorial is a boost to Melrose Mainstreet & its’ Park .  Melrose invites you to stop by, visit the Memorial & then stop by our wonderful new Main Street Bar & Grill -THE WHISTLE STOP-for some awesome home cooking, perhaps some ‘spirits’ and of course good ole Irish blarney that is usually flowing freely.  You’ll be glad you stopped. God Bless
